How Long Is a ReelShort Episode? About 1 Minute 48 Seconds, Measured

ReelShort never prints episode lengths, but its official YouTube channel posts the first episodes of new series as one video and says how many it contains. Divide one by the other across 37 series: a median of 1 minute 48 seconds an episode.

ReelShort does not tell you how long its episodes are. The series pages list how many episodes there are and how many are free, and nothing about running time. The usual answer you will find elsewhere — “one to two minutes” — is repeated a lot and measured rarely.

There is a way to measure it, and ReelShort provides it. For many new series, ReelShort’s official YouTube channel posts the opening episodes as a single video, titled with the episodes it contains: Bound by Duty [EP1-11], God of Pain [EP1-12]. Of the 57 series in our ReelShort catalogue that were listed between June and August 2026, 25 got one. Divide the length of that video by the number of episodes in it, and you have the length of an episode.

The answer: about 1 minute 48 seconds

We found 37 such uploads on ReelShort’s official channel, posted between 2 June and 13 August 2026. Each starts at episode 1 and covers between 7 and 16 episodes, 11 at the median.

The median episode runs 1 minute 48 seconds. The middle half of the series fall between 1:38 and 2:01.

Length of one episode Series
Under 1:30 4
1:30 – 1:59 23
2:00 – 2:29 9
2:30 – 2:59 1
3:00 or more 0

So “one to two minutes” is roughly right for ReelShort — closer to two than to one. The shortest episodes in the set belong to Death Touch, at 1:19 each; the longest to Faking It with My Ex’s Best Friend, at 2:33. Nothing reaches three minutes.

What that means for a whole series

35 of the 37 uploads match, by exact name, a series in the ReelShort catalogue we hold, so we know how many episodes each series has in total. Those 35 run a median of 65 episodes.

Multiply each series’ episode length by its episode count and the median comes to about 2 hours. That assumes the later episodes run as long as the opening ones, which we cannot check — but it puts a ReelShort series at roughly the length of one feature film, watched in very small pieces.

And the free part is about 20 minutes

The number of episodes in these uploads is not random. We checked it against ReelShort’s own series pages when we looked at what the official channels post: in 32 of 35 series the YouTube upload contains exactly the episodes ReelShort gives away free in the app, and in the other three the app gives slightly more.

That makes the length of the upload a direct measure of the free run. The median upload lasts 19 minutes 33 seconds. On a new ReelShort series, then, the free part is about twenty minutes of story — after which, at roughly two minutes an episode, the paywall starts. For how that compares across apps, see how much of a short drama is free.

How it compares

We can make the same kind of measurement in two other places, and neither is identical:

  • NetShort publishes the running time of each series’ first episode. Across its 717 series, that first episode runs a median of 2 minutes 38 seconds — longer than ReelShort’s episodes, though a first episode is the one an app has the most reason to make longer. We used those figures to estimate how many hours a short drama takes.
  • FlexTV’s official channel posted seven uploads of the same kind in 2025. Their episodes run a median of 1 minute 52 seconds, very close to ReelShort’s.

For DramaBox, GoodShort, ShortMax and MoboReels we have no upload that states how many episodes it contains, so we cannot measure their episodes this way.

The limits

  • An upload can include more than the episodes — an opening card, an end screen. Anything like that is counted in the total, so if anything these figures run slightly long.
  • These are opening episodes only. Episodes 1 to N may not be typical of episodes 40 to 60.
  • These are 37 new series from the summer of 2026, the ones ReelShort chose to launch this way. Older series are not in the sample.
  • We have not watched them. Everything here comes from the upload lengths YouTube reports and the episode counts in the titles.

What we measured

Every upload on ReelShort’s official YouTube channel whose title carries an [EP1-N] marker, as read on 28 September 2026: 37 videos. Episode length is the video’s running time divided by N. Total episode counts come from ReelShort’s own series pages, collected on 2 September 2026. If you saw one of these launch videos and want to know whether the series is already in the app, it almost certainly is.
