ReelShort Novel and the Books Behind Short Dramas: Only Two of 12 Apps Share a Seller With a Reading App

An app called ReelShort Novel exists, but it is sold by a different company from ReelShort, has 18 ratings and has not been updated since 2024. Only GoodShort and MoboReels share a seller with a novel app.

People who finish a short drama often want the book it came from: the longer version, the ending, the next part. Searching for “ReelShort novel” turns up an app with exactly that name. It is not from the company that sells ReelShort, and it has barely been touched since it launched.

We checked the App Store listings of the twelve short drama apps we track, and every other app sold by the same companies, on 15 October 2026.

The ReelShort Novel app

On the US App Store ReelShort Novel ReelShort
Seller CMS Media Inc New Leaf Publishing, Inc.
Available since 8 October 2024 24 August 2022
Ratings 18 509,101
Last updated 9 October 2024 September 2026

ReelShort Novel offers romance novels to read chapter by chapter. Its seller, CMS Media Inc, also sells the Hooked chat-story apps. The company listed as ReelShort’s seller is a different one.

Nothing public ties the two together. ReelShort Novel’s website does not link to ReelShort, and ReelShort’s website does not link to ReelShort Novel. The novel app has had a single version, released the day after it launched, and nothing since.

So if you are looking for the book behind a ReelShort drama, this app is not a reliable route. We found no reading app under ReelShort’s own seller; the only other app listed under that name is a makeup game.

Which apps come from reading companies

Across the twelve apps, two are sold by a company that also sells novel-reading apps on the US store:

Short drama app Reading apps from the same seller
GoodShort GoodNovel (231,903 ratings), MegaNovel, BueNovela (Spanish)
MoboReels MoboReader (52,605 ratings) and six other reading apps

Those are substantial fiction businesses. GoodNovel has more US ratings than most of the short drama apps we track. MoboReader has been on the store since 2017, almost six years before MoboReels.

A few other sellers have story products of a different kind. DramaWave’s seller also sells an interactive story game, and FlexTV’s seller has a newer comic-drama app. For the remaining seven, ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, NetShort, FlickReels, StardustTV, My Drama and PineDrama, we found no reading app under the same seller.

What that means for finding the book

  • GoodShort: if a series is based on a novel, GoodNovel is the most likely place to find it, since the same company publishes both.
  • MoboReels: the same applies to MoboReader.
  • ReelShort and the others: there is no sister reading app to check. Search the series title with the word “novel”, and be wary of sites that repost books without permission.

What this does and does not show

It shows which short drama apps share an App Store seller with a reading app, and what the ReelShort Novel app is.

It does not show which dramas are adapted from which books. A shared seller makes adaptation likely for some titles, not certain for any one. We could not check individual series against the reading apps’ catalogues. Nothing on this page describes what anything costs.

What we measured

The US App Store listings of twelve short drama apps and of ReelShort Novel, together with every other app listed under each of their sellers, read through Apple’s public lookup service on 15 October 2026. The websites of ReelShort and ReelShort Novel were read the same day to look for links between them.
