How the ranking is calculated

Three signals, added together. You can check every one of them yourself against thecatalogue — nothing here is hidden.

  • Shared tropes, weighted heaviest. A trope is a label the platform itself applied to the series. Two dramas both filed under fake-marriage really are about the same thing, so one shared trope counts for nearly three shared genres — and for more than any amount of title overlap can.
  • Shared genres, weighted lightly. Genres are broad — a large share of the catalogue is some flavour of romance — so sharing one says much less than sharing a trope.
  • Overlapping title words, capped. Two titles both containingwerewolf tells you more than two both containing love, so rare words count for more. But this contribution is capped deliberately, because it is the least reliable of the three: our first version left it uncapped and a single coincidental word — two unrelated series both using stolen — outranked series that shared two real tropes. Title overlap now breaks ties; it does not decide them.

Whatever produced the match is printed above the results, so you can see whether a suggestion came from a real shared label or from two titles happening to use the same word.

What this is not

  • It is not "people who watched this also watched". We have no viewing data of any kind, from any platform. Nothing here reflects what anyone actually did.
  • Nobody on this desk has watched these series. The comparison runs on titles and on labels the platforms published. If two dramas feel alike for a reason that never made it into either, this page cannot know.
  • Label coverage is uneven. 644 of 1885 series carry trope labels and 1007 carry genres. A series with neither can only be matched on title wording, which is much weaker — and it will also be a much worse starting point.
  • Ties are common, and we do not break them. With only 34 tropes in use across the catalogue, dozens of series can share exactly the same labels with a given starting point and nothing else to separate them. When that happens their order here is arbitrary — not a judgement that the first is closer than the fifth. Inventing a tiebreaker would just be arbitrary ordering wearing a confidence it has not earned.
  • Three catalogues, not the whole category. We can read NetShort, ReelShort and ShortMax. DramaBox, FlexTV and GoodShort publish no catalogue we can parse, so nothing from them appears here and nothing from them can be matched against.
