If you want to work on short dramas, the job boards of the companies behind them say a lot about how the shows are made. ReelShort’s studio is hiring writers whose job is to adapt web novels. My Drama’s company is hiring AI filmmakers and an AI scriptwriter. Neither lists a single acting role.

We read the public job boards of the companies behind twelve short drama apps on 17 October 2026.

ReelShort: writers who adapt web novels

ReelShort is made by Crazy Maple Studio, which lists ReelShort as its product on its own website, alongside the story app Chapters and the romance-reading app My Fiction. Its website says it was founded in the Bay Area in 2016, launched ReelShort in August 2022 and opened a Los Angeles office in October 2024.

Its job board listed six open roles:

Role Posted Where
Screenwriter, ReelShort (contract) June 2024 Remote
Writer, ReelShort, Elastic Heart Studio (contract) April 2026 Los Angeles, remote
Senior Product Manager, AI Product August 2026 Sunnyvale
Project Assistant, Mandarin (contract) September 2026 Sunnyvale
Freelance Game Writer, romance (for Chapters) March 2026 Remote
General application July 2026 Sunnyvale and Culver City

Two of the six are ReelShort writing jobs, and the screenwriter posting describes the work plainly: reading web novels and adapting them into scripts. It asks for at least five years of screenwriting experience, strength in romance and drama, and knowledge of the online reading and publishing industry. That posting has stayed up since June 2024.

That answers a question we could not settle from app-store data alone, in the books behind short dramas: at least some ReelShort series start life as web novels.

My Drama: an AI push

My Drama is made by Holywater, and every one of its job postings names My Drama. Its board listed 21 open roles, 20 of them based in Kyiv, Ukraine, and open to remote work.

The striking part is the newest postings. Six job titles include “AI”, and all six went up between 23 September and 9 October 2026:

  • AI Filmmaker
  • AI-Scriptwriter
  • AI Sound Producer
  • Digital Creator / AI Artist
  • Marketing AI Creator
  • AI Product Engineer

The company describes itself in these postings as building entertainment at the meeting point of human creativity and artificial intelligence, and four of the six AI roles sit in its content team. We looked at which apps say openly that they use AI in AI dramas; My Drama’s store listing does not mention it, but its hiring does.

No acting jobs on either board

Neither company’s board lists an acting role. Casting for these series happens elsewhere, through casting platforms and agents, and none of that is visible on a company job board. The production side does show up on the apps’ channels: ReelShort’s official YouTube channel has posted 401 behind-the-scenes uploads since November 2024.

So the practical answer depends on the job:

  1. Writers: ReelShort’s screenwriter and Elastic Heart postings are the clearest open doors. Romance experience is the common requirement.
  2. AI and digital creators: Holywater is hiring for exactly that, mostly from Kyiv.
  3. Actors: company job boards are not where to look. Casting calls go through casting services.

The other apps

For the other ten apps we track, including DramaBox, GoodShort, ShortMax and NetShort, we found no public job board on the four common hiring platforms we checked. That does not mean they are not hiring; they may recruit through LinkedIn or their own sites.

What this does and does not show

It shows what two short drama companies are publicly hiring for, and that both are hiring writers and neither lists acting roles.

It does not show the whole job market. Companies also hire through recruiters, LinkedIn and casting platforms, which we cannot see. A posting that stays open may be filled and left up. We do not report pay. Nothing on this page describes what anything costs.

What we measured

The public job boards of Crazy Maple Studio and Holywater, read through their hiring platforms’ public listing services on 17 October 2026, with each posting’s title, department, location, date and description. Crazy Maple Studio’s careers page, for its own description of its products and history. The same public services were checked for the companies behind ten other short drama apps. Behind-the-scenes uploads were counted from every public upload on ReelShort’s official YouTube channel.
